Body of Navy is a hand-printed cyanotype music video made by Ivy Langley in collaboration with her sister and songwriter, Elsie Langley.
The song explores the all-encompassing feeling of being engulfed by someone, mistaking an obsession for falling and being swept away. The visual narrative of the animation became a conversation with Elsie’s own creative process, on how to reground yourself within the overwhelming tide of losing and finding personal meaning.
The footage is taken from my archive of collected camcorder videos, edited and separated into frames, scanned and stitched back together as a fully analogue, cyanotype printed animation. A labourious process that allowed Ivy to appreciate the joys of print making in its textural depth.
