Years ago I attended a year long day release course for Assistant Animators run by the BFI.
We were lucky enough to have a series of guest lecturers come and talk to us about being assistants. Mark Baker came to see us, he was brilliant, he told us he knew we all secretly wanted to be film makers, not just assistants.
He told us everything he knew about writing, animating and creating sound for films. He also talking about his new film Jolly Roger, which he’d just started making.
Years later, I still love his work. Mark’s quirky storytelling, observations, use of pantomime and perfect comic timing remind me every time I watch his work, how much I want to make short films.
